Description

Good planning and scheduling keeps the project on track and the project team accountable. This class examines the who, what, when, where, why and how of construction project scheduling. Planning and scheduling is the responsibility of the entire construction team, and a good understanding of the schedule is essential for project success. Students will hear why planning and scheduling is important for project execution and will learn the basics of how a schedule is developed, updated, and reported. 

Following this class participants will be able to

  • Develop a critical path method schedule by utilizing a series of steps and best practices to improve project outcomes
  • Identify and use the key CPM schedule concepts used on a construction project, including network relationships and lag, total float, constraints, durations and work breakdown structures
  • Explain the multiple reasons for developing and maintaining a good construction CPM schedule
  • Utilize pull planning to effectively communicate the project schedule to the team while finding efficiencies to improve the plan moving forward

What you can expect to learn as a:

  • General Contractor: Learn the process of how a CPM schedule gets created and the fundamentals of CPM schedule calculations. Also learn about pull planning and the two-way communication with the people doing the work to best build the project.
  • Specialty Contractor: Learn the process of how a CPM schedule gets created and the fundamentals of CPM schedule calculations. Also learn about pull planning and how two-way communication between the GC and Subcontractors leads to better project outcomes.
  • Supplier: Learn the processes for CPM Scheduling and Pull Planning to gain insight into what the GC is doing to build the project and how material delivery can positively or negatively impact the project outcome.
  • Industry Professional: Learn the process of how a CPM schedule gets created and the fundamentals of CPM schedule calculations. Also learn about pull planning and the two-way communication with the people doing the work to best build the project.
  • Owner/Developer: Learn the processes for CPM Scheduling and Pull Planning to gain insight and hopefully an appreciation into what the GC is doing to build the project and work with their subcontractors.
  • Architect/Engineer: Learn the processes for CPM Scheduling and Pull Planning to gain insight and hopefully an appreciation into what the GC is doing to build the project and work with their subcontractors.

This class provides a broad overview of the topic and is best suited for new hires and those new to the industry to help bridge the gap between theory and job site reality.
