Business Over Breakfast

Join us for an important Business Over Breakfast as we raise awareness for Suicide Prevention Month. 

Construction has the highest suicide rate of any industry in the country. Most people in construction have already lost a friend, family member, or co-worker to suicide. It's not a comfortable topic, and that's a big part of why it is challenging to talk about on jobsites.

This session is a straight conversation about suicide and its impact on our industry.  Mary Catherine Yates of Safety Consultants USA will cover what the numbers actually look like in construction, why this industry gets hit harder than most, and what the warning signs look like in the people you work around every day. She'll also get into what to do once you notice something — including how to ask someone directly, which is the part most people freeze up on.

You'll walk out with things you can put in front of your crews right away:

  • CIASP toolbox talks — free, and they update them regularly
  • "Stronger Than the Silence," a short video you can play at a safety meeting
  • A free anonymous online screening tool your people can use on their own time
  • The Stand Up for Suicide Prevention pledge

You don't have to be a counselor to make a difference here. You just have to know what to look for and be willing to say something.


Business Over Breakfast provides ABC of Georgia members on the business side of construction the opportunity to come together monthly to discuss ideas of common interest. 

Meeting topics are selected within a month of the meeting and will be updated accordingly.
